Aerius is an antihistamine used to treat the symptoms of hay fever and other allergic conditions such as watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes, and sneezing. It may also be used to treat hives. Candesartan (kan-de-SAR-tan) belongs to the class of medicines called angiotensin II inhibitors. It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High blood pressure may also increase the risk of heart attacks. These problems may be less likely to occur if blood pressure is controlled.Candesartan works by blocking the action of a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten. As a result, candesartan relaxes blood vessels. This lowers blood pressure.Candesartan is used for: Treating high blood pressure. It may be used alone or in combination with other medicines. Candesartan controls high blood pressure. It works by blocking the effect of a hormone called angiotensin II. Unopposed, this substance prompts the blood vessels to contract, an action that tends to raise blood pressure. Candesartan relaxes and expands the blood vessels, allowing pressure to drop. Candesartan is in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Candesartan keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow.Candesartan is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is sometimes given together with other blood pressure medications.Candesartan is also used to treat kidney problems caused by type 2 (not insulin-dependent) diabetes. Levofloxacin is used treat infections such as pneumonia; chronic bronchitis; and sinus, urinary tract, kidney, and skin infections. Levofloxacin is in a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. It works by eliminating bacteria that cause infections. Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.
This medication is used to treat certain foot/leg ulcers in people with diabetes. It is used along with good foot/leg care (e.g., keeping pressure off the wound) to help the ulcer heal completely. Becaplermin works by attracting certain natural substances to the ulcer that help wound healing. How to use Becaplermin TopWash hands thoroughly before applying this medicine. To avoid contaminating the container tip, do not touch it to the skin or any other surface. Learn all preparation and usage instructions in the product package. Ritonavir is used to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. It belongs to a class of drugs called protease (pro' tee ace) inhibitors, which slow the spread of HIV infection in the body. It is usually taken with other antiviral medications. Ritonavir is not a cure and may not decrease the number of HIV-related illnesses. Ritonavir does not prevent the spread of HIV to other people.Ritonavir comes as a capsule and liquid to take by mouth. It is usually taken every 12 hours (twice a day). Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take ritonavir exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.Mix just one dose at a time and take the whole dose within 1 hour of mixing. Rinse the cup after each dose.Continue to take ritonavir even if you feel well. Do not stop taking ritonavir without talking to your doctor.Ritonavir is not a cure for HIV and it does not prevent the spread of HIV to others through sexual contact or blood contamination (e.g., sharing used needles).OTHER USES: This section contains uses of this drug that are not listed in the approved professional labeling for the drug but that may be prescribed by your health care professional. Use this drug for a condition that is listed in this section only if it has been so prescribed by your health care professional. This medication may also be used to prevent HIV infection after contact with the virus. How to use Ritonavir OralRead the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start taking ritonavir and each time you get a refill. Use a dosage cup or a special medication measuring spoon to measure out the correct dose. If a dosing cup is used, rinse the cup with water after taking the medication and drink all of the rinse water to make sure you take the full dose. The dosage is based on your weight, liver function, medical condition, other medications, and response to therapy. It is very important to continue taking this medication (and other HIV medications) exactly as prescribed by your doctor. This medication works best when the amount of drug in your body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, take this drug at evenly spaced intervals. To help you remember, take it at the same times each day.Do not take more or less of this drug than prescribed or stop taking it (or other HIV medicines) even for a short time unless directed to do so by your doctor. Skipping or changing your dose without approval from your doctor may cause the amount of virus to increase, make the infection more difficult to treat (resistant), or worsen side effects.
Amantadine is used to prevent or treat a certain type of flu (influenza A). If you have been infected with the flu, this medication may help make your symptoms less severe and shorten the time it will take you to get better. Taking amantadine if you have been or will be exposed to the flu may help to prevent you from getting the flu. This medication is an antiviral that is believed to work by stopping growth of the flu virus. This medication is not a vaccine. To increase the chance that you will not get the flu, it is important to get a flu shot once a year at the beginning of every flu season, if possible. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that amantadine should not be used for the treatment or prevention of influenza A during the 2007-08 flu season, because the current influenza A virus in the United States is resistant to this medication. For more details talk to your doctor or pharmacist.Amantadine is also used to treat Parkinson's disease, as well as side effects caused by drugs (e.g., drug-induced extrapyramidal symptoms), chemicals, other medical conditions. In these cases, this medication may help to improve your range of motion and ability to exercise. For the treatment of these conditions, amantadine is believed to work by restoring the balance of natural chemicals (neurotransmitters) in the brain. How to use Amantadine OralTake this medication by mouth with or without food, usually once or twice daily or as directed by your doctor. If you are taking this medication twice a day and have trouble sleeping after taking it, take the second dose several hours before bedtime. If you are taking the syrup, measure the dose carefully with a medication spoon/cup.Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. In children, the dosage is also based on body weight. Do not take more than prescribed by your doctor. This medication works best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, take this medication at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day and night. If you are taking amantadine for a viral infection, begin taking it as soon as possible. Continue taking it until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may result in a relapse of the infection. In Parkinson's disease, the effects of the medication may not be noticed for several weeks. Do not suddenly stop taking the medication because symptoms or side effects may worsen. Your doctor may want to reduce your dose gradually. This medication may not work as well after it has been taken for several months. Tell your doctor if this medication stops working well.Amantadine Oral is used to treat the following:Parkinson Symptoms, Parkinsonism due to Degenerations in the Brain, Parkinson's Disease, Parkinsonism due to Thickening of Blood Vessel Walls, Extrapyramidal Reaction, A Type of Flu - Influenza A, Influenza A PreventionAmantadine Oral may also be used to treat: Viral Disease of Central Nervous System-Creutzfeldt-Jakob, Fatigue associated with Multiple Sclerosis, Cognitive Impairment following Traumatic Brain Injury CombiganÖ (brimonidine tartrate/timolol maleate ophthalmic solution) 0.2%/0.5% is an alpha adrenergic receptor agonist with a beta adrenergic receptor inhibitor indicated for the reduction of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with glaucoma or ocular hypertension who require adjunctive or replacement therapy due to inadequately controlled IOP; the IOP-lowering of CombiganÖ dosed twice a day was slightly less than that seen with the concomitant administration of 0.5% timolol maleate ophthalmic solution dosed twice a day and 0.2% brimonidine tartrate ophthalmic solution dosed three times per day. Acyclovir is used to decrease pain and speed the healing of sores or blisters in people who have varicella (chickenpox), herpes zoster (shingles; a rash that can occur in people who have had chickenpox in the past), and first-time or repeat outbreaks of genital herpes (a herpes virus infection that causes sores to form around the genitals and rectum from time to time). Acyclovir is also sometimes used to prevent outbreaks of genital herpes in people who are infected with the virus. Acyclovir is in a class of antiviral medications called synthetic nucleoside analogues. It works by stopping the spread of the herpes virus in the body. Acyclovir will not cure genital herpes and may not stop the spread of genital herpes to other people. How should this medicine be used? Acyclovir comes as a tablet, a capsule, and a suspension (liquid) to take by mouth. It is usually taken with or without food two to five times a day for 5 to 10 days, starting as soon as possible after your symptoms begin. When acyclovir is used to prevent outbreaks of genital herpes, it is usually taken two to five times a day for up to 12 months. Take acyclovir at around the same times every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take acyclovir exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often or for a longer time than prescribed by your doctor.Shake the liquid well before each use to mix the medication evenly.Your symptoms should improve during your treatment with acyclovir. Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse.Take acyclovir until you finish the prescription, even if you feel better. If you stop taking acyclovir too soon or skip doses, your infection may not be completely treated or may become more difficult to treat.Other uses for this medicine Acyclovir is also sometimes used to treat eczema herpeticum (a skin infection caused by the herpes virus) to treat and prevent herpes infections of the skin, eyes, nose, and mouth in patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and to treat oral hairy leukoplakia (condition that causes hairy white or gray-colored patches on the tongue or inside of the cheek).
Isosorbide is used to prevent or treat chest pain (angina). It works by relaxing the blood vessels to the heart, so the blood and oxygen supply to the heart is increased.Isosorbide comes as a regular, sublingual, chewable, and extended-release (long-acting) tablet and extended-release (long-acting) capsule to be taken by mouth. The tablet usually is taken every 6 hours. The extended-release tablet usually is taken one or two times a day. The extended-release capsule usually is taken every 8-12 hours. Do not crush, chew, or divide the extended-release tablets or capsules. The sublingual or chewable tablet is used as needed to relieve chest pain that has already started or to prevent pain before activities known to provoke attacks (e.g., climbing stairs, sexual activity, heavy exercise, or being outside in cold weather). The chewable tablet also may be used every 2-3 hours to prevent chest pain. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take isosorbide exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.Isosorbide controls chest pain but does not cure it. Continue to take isosorbide even if you feel well. Do not stop taking isosorbide without talking to your doctor. Stopping the drug abruptly may cause chest pain.Isosorbide can lose its effectiveness when used for a long time. This effect is called tolerance. If your angina attacks happen more often, last longer, or are more severe, call your doctor. If you are using isosorbide sublingual or chewable tablets for acute chest pain, you should carry the tablets with you at all times. If you are taking isosorbide and your chest pain is not relieved within 5-10 minutes, take another dose. Call for emergency assistance or go to a hospital emergency department if pain persists after you have taken three tablets (at 5-10-minute intervals) and 15-30 minutes have passed. When an attack occurs, sit down. If you use chewable tablets, chew a tablet thoroughly and swallow it. To use the sublingual tablets, place a tablet under your tongue or between your cheek and gum and allow it to dissolve. Do not swallow the tablet. Try not to swallow saliva too often until the tablet dissolves.Other uses for this medicine Isosorbide tablets are also used with other drugs to treat congestive heart failure. Daktacort hydrocortisone cream contains two active ingredients, miconazole nitrate and hydrocortisone acetate.Miconazole nitrate is a type of antifungal medicine. It kills fungi, yeasts and some bacteria (Staphylococcus and Streptococcus species). Miconazole works by preventing fungi from producing a substance called ergosterol, which is a component of fungal cell membranes. The cell membranes of fungi are vital for their survival. They keep unwanted substances from entering the cells and stop the contents of the cells from leaking out. Without ergosterol as part of the cell membrane, the membrane is weakened and damaged, and essential constituents of the fungal cells can leak out. This kills the fungi. Hydrocortisone acetate is a type of medicine known as a corticosteroid (or steroid). Corticosteroids are hormones that are produced naturally by the adrenal glands, and have many important functions, including control of inflammatory responses. Hydrocortisone is used to decrease inflammation in the skin. When applied to the skin it is absorbed into the skin cells. Here it works by preventing the release of certain chemicals from the cells. These chemicals are important in the immune system, and are released as a result of irritation. They cause blood vessels to widen, resulting in the affected area of skin becoming red, swollen, itchy and painful. By decreasing the release of these chemicals in the skin, hydrocortisone reduces inflammation and relieves itch. This combination of medicines is used to treat athlete's foot, and another fungal infection of the skin called Candidal intertrigo. This is inflammation that occurs between folds of skin, eg between the buttocks or beneath the breasts, and is due to overgrowth of Candida species of fungi in these warm, moist areas. The hydrocortisone in this medicine reduces the inflammation associated with athlete's foot and candidal intertrigo, while the miconazole kills the fungi causing the infection. Once the inflammation has cleared up, treatment can be continued with a medicine containing just an antifungal, eg Daktarin cream or powder. What is it used for? Athlete's foot (tinea pedis) Inflammation between folds of skin, eg buttocks, due to infection with Candida fungi (Candidal intertrigo) |
